Annecy International Animation Film Festival, 2026
Alagôa’s experimental short XYZ (2026) had its international premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where it was selected for the Off-Limits Competition, dedicated to experimental and unconventional approaches to animation.
The film screened six times throughout the festival, between 22 and 27 June, across several venues in Annecy. Its presentation generated a wide range of responses and conversations with audiences, particularly around single-frame animation, structural film, flicker film, and perception.
Alongside the screenings, the festival provided an opportunity to encounter filmmakers and artists working across animation, experimental cinema, and immersive practices, and to participate in several professional and cultural events throughout the week. These included the Directors' Welcome Drink, the Special Prizes Ceremony and Closing Ceremony, as well as a gathering organised by Film Fund Luxembourg with filmmakers and producers from the Luxembourg audiovisual community.
Presenting XYZ at Annecy represented an important moment in the film’s international circulation and an opportunity to place Alagôa’s ongoing research into structural film, single-frame animation, and perception within a wider conversation around contemporary experimental animation.
