Paint your film! 2026

Paint your film! was a cameraless filmmaking workshop lectured by Alexandre Alagôa at Casino Luxembourg - Forum d’Art Contemporain, as part of the 2026 edition of «display.ed».

Developed in collaboration with the Luxembourg Film Festival, SCRIPT and the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg, «display.ed» is an educational initiative designed to introduce young audiences to the opportunities and realities of the creative sector in Luxembourg. Through curated visits, workshops, talks and hands-on activities, participants meet practicing artists and gain insight into artistic processes, research methods, and professional paths within the cultural field.

Alagôa’s workshop Paint your film! invites all participants to create a collective 16mm analog film. Instead of using any cameras, screens or digital devices, visitors paint directly on the surface of the film strip with different materials — pens, markers and brushes — with the goal of creating one single film composed by all sorts of abstract and formless shapes.

Whether familiar or total strangers, the workshop invites synergetic participation and a collaborative haptic experience between everyone involved, fostering a shared sense of playfulness and curiosity towards the history of experimental film approaches.
